The Palm Jumeirah is a man-made archipelago in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that was constructed through land reclamation and extends into the Persian Gulf.
It is part of a bigger development known as the Palm Islands, which also includes Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira and when completed, will add 520 kilometers (320 miles) to Dubai’s shoreline.
As of 2016, its population was expected to be 10,500 people. It is situated on the Jumeirah shoreline of the United Arab Emirates’ emirate of Dubai.
Van Oord and Boskalis, two Dutch specialist companies, collaborated on the building. The World was also built by the same firms. The freshly opened Palm Jumeirah locations The Pointe, Club Vista Mare, and Nakheel Mall are the most recent additions to the island.
Transportation
The Palm Jumeirah Monorail is a 5.4-kilometer-long (3.4-mile) monorail that connects the Atlantis Hotel to the Gateway Towers at the island’s foot.
The monorail connects The Palm Jumeirah Dubai to the mainland, with a planned expansion to the Dubai Metro’s Red Line. The line went into service on April 30, 2009. It is the Middle East’s first monorail.
Construction
The Palm Jumeirah Dubai island’s construction began in June 2001, and the first residential units were handed over in 2006. On the Crescent, 28 hotels had opened by the end of 2009.
